Landscapes and colours by Joan Ribas Ribas.
The landscapes of Eivissa from the beginning and middle of the twentieth century, sometimes without human figures and sometimes inhabited by Payesan women dressed in the traditional way, are the main motif of Joan Ribas Ribas’s work. The sixty watercolours and five drawings in black ink that the Consell Insular of Eivissa acquired in 2002 are an example of it. The Ethnographic Museum wanted to showcase these pieces in a temporary exhibition in room B of the museum in 2017. In this exhibition, we found landscapes of the countryside and the city, such as rural churches, olive trees and streets of the Marina and sa Penya, as well as beautiful portraits of elegantly dressed Payesan women wearing the traditional costume and jewels.
