Elmyr d'Hory

D’Hory, Elmyr (Budapest 1906 – Ibiza 1976)

Elmyr d'Hory

He was trained in academies in Munich and Paris, arrived on Eivissa for the first time in 1961 and, three years later, he settled permanently on the island. He was a master of imitation; his work is based on copying the great masters of the twentieth century and the production of paintings in the style of Modigliani or Pablo Picasso, of whom he circulated some copies that were close to perfection. Although he was accused of being a forger, he defended that he did not imitate works, but styles.
