Narcís Puget Viñas

Puget Viñas, Narcís  (Ibiza 1874 — Santa Eulària des Riu 1960)

Narcís Puget Viñas

Born in Ibiza, in a wealthy family of Catalan origin, he directed the first studies to the profession of photographer, although the painting will soon arouse his interest. He trained at the Higher School of Arts in Barcelona and made different trips to the Prado Museum and the Louvre, which marked his work. From the 1920's the painter's favorite themes began to appear: customary scenes, traditional festivals, characters ..., using the colors in a brave and bright way, in a long brush stroke and highlighting the figures well. Two decades later, the freshness and luminosity of the first period was lost and painted the last paintings due to the advanced age and the loss of vision. The work of Puget Viñas, considered the father of contemporary painting in Ibiza, has been of great importance in island painting and has aroused admiration in innumerable artists.
